day in the life
So I haven’t posted in ages, but I myself didn’t even know what was going on in my own life, so I decided to hold back from blogging until I figured things out. I had no idea what to do when my team was dissolved at Johnson & Johnson, and grabbed the first position that opened up to me in Hong Kong: to be a lifestyle writer at a tourism magazine. That decision was based on a...

Make Up Review: Sephora Liquid Eyeliner
Being incredibly huge on liquid eyeliner for almost a year now, I thought it was only natural to share with you my discoveries in that realm after a year of obsession. But before that, I’d like to give a backgrounder on it: I only became really obsessed with eye make-up since my trip to Japan in October 2011. Japanese girls apply an unbelievable amount of eye make-up (think double falsies,...

Overweight: Traveling Tales
Finally back in Hong Kong & on the bus home! A few hours ago, in Manila, we were told our luggage was overweight by 9.8kg and would have to pay 300 pesos for every kilogram we were overweight!! I stared at the check in counter person dumbly - we had about zero cash left except for our terminal fee moneys! My refusal to accept that we had to pay so much for just a few kg spawned the crazy idea...

Kowloon Walled City Park
Static Waves (feat. Katie Herzig) by Andrew Belle on Grooveshark
finally made it to the historic Kowloon Walled City Park after almost a year of trying to get there! (click here to refer to that failed attempt last year, in which I got derailed and ate a sandwich instead in some random other park)
the old Yamen (headquarters), the centre and focal point of the Park and the only building that...

Isla ng Corregidor
Last Sunday, my dad, sister, Juanka, and I boarded the ferry from Manila Bay (behind Folk Arts Theatre) to Corregidor Island for the first time in our lives. The upside of entertaining visitors to your country is that you get an excuse to discover new things about your hometown as well. We never really have the initiative to become a tourist in our own cities until we actually need to show one...

High Tea British Colony Version
Sunday was spent with old high school friends at the InterContinental lobby with a splendid view of the Hong Kong Harbour. Gayle was adamant to have her ‘high tea’ experience, so straight from Beijing-style lunch at Tsim Sha Tsui’s Delicious Kitchen, we headed for the harbour. We had a choice between the InterContinental and the Peninsula, but I lobbied hard for the former...

Fu Tung Cantonese Cuisine: Cheaters
A few weeks ago, my friend gave me a Groupon voucher that he couldn’t use for himself. It was for a Cantonese cuisine dinner of Goose Feet, Black Truffle Stir Fried Shrimp, and Fo Tiao Qiang. I called to make the reservation the day before and specifically said I was going to use the voucher, but when Kristina and I arrived there yesterday, the staff at the restaurant said we didn’t...

Latest Film: Memento
Anastasiia and I saw this last night and were mindfucked; I got especially lost because the black and white scenes were overlapping with the colored scenes and I just didn’t know what was going on anymore.
See this if you liked Inception and Shutter Island. I kind of guessed the ending from the beginning because his other films give hints as to the kind of director he...

Slumber Party
Last night, my officemates and I had a sleepover at my place… haha! It was like a summer camp complete with a cook out: Anastasiia made the famous Ukranian buckwheat (brought by her mother all the way from Eastern Europe) + Pork Stroganoff -
while Juanka cooked Sopa Negra, a Costa Rican Black Bean Soup, extremely filling and tasty + vegetarian:
Daniel made this fantastic uber-rich...

classics
As advised by Mrs. Townsend, I borrowed two Academy-Award Winning films over the last week to enrich my film education (and to give advance warning, I won’t censor myself with my reactions, I may sound slightly stupid):
Legends of the Fall
starring Brad Pitt and Anthony Hopkins (I had no idea it was him until I read the DVD cover in the end. Anthony Hopkins was YOUNG once upon a time, and...
