No. 8 Southeast Gale
Whilst most of Hong Kong was closed today because of the Storm Signal, and all classes and work were suspended, I holed up at home with my Mexican flatmates & their friends and saw these movies:
Hanna
This was a really good watch. Think Bourne Identity meets Kick-ass but less Hollywood, plus the violence was more art than gore. I think Saoirse Ronan, the lead, was perfect and essential to the role as well - casting makes or breaks these kinds of movies, and in this case (unlike in Green Lantern), it was a ‘make’ rather than a ‘break’. I’m not exactly the best at movie reviews, so I’ll spare you that and will post a summary from Wikipedia instead:
Hanna is a 2011 European-American action thriller film about Hanna Heller (Saoirse Ronan), a 16-year-old girl who lives with her father (Eric Bana) in the wilderness of Finland. Ever since she was two years old, Hanna has been trained by Erik to become a multilingual assassin. As part of her training, she has never come into contact with modern technology and has memorized a series of fake back stories for herself to be used “when the time comes”…
Insidious - I’m sure many of you have heard of or have seen this film, so I won’t expound, except to say that it wasn’t as scary as I thought it would be.

Sooo lazy to go back to work tomorrow after such a satisfyingly lazy day at home… And now, more than ever, I’m appreciating my flat. Despite it being so out of the way in Cheung Sha Wan, it’s so big and comfy. I’ve more or less decided, though, about moving to a smaller but more central place in Tsim Sha Tsui. It’s not only cheaper, but is also walking distance from my office. Did I make the right decision?
