awesome

A few months ago, after starting my job, I was looking for books in the PolyU library to read, disappointed to find they didn’t have anything by George R.R. Martin. I wrote an e-mail to their purchasing department, on the off chance that they’d actually have a budget for such trivial requests, but today I just found an e-mail that went like this:

a week late, but because I feel so bitter for missing out on dressing up this Halloween (insanely jealous of everyone’s pictures back in Hong Kong), I’m posting a picture of my costume last year just to feel as if I celebrated somehow.

Ngong Ping 360 at Lantau Island, Hong Kong.
The Tung Chung Cable Car was closed that day, so we took a bus and then climbed to the Tian Tan Buddha. While I was circling the latter, I was reminded of Beijing. Small wonder that was, because apparently the statue is named Tian Tan Buddha because its base is a model of the Altar of Heaven (or Earthly Mount of Tian Tan), the Temple of Heaven in Beijing (see this post).
It’s a pity we we didn’t have the time to go around the Ngong Ping cultural themed village as we were rushing to make it to Victoria Peak that day. I’ll come back soon.

the Great Wall

These are pictures from my Beijing Trip last end of April/start of May:

On our fourth day in Beijing, we booked a trip up to the Mutianyu (慕田峪) section of the Great Wall of China. I’ve been looking forward to seeing the Great Wall for years, but when I finally got there, I was too tired and hot to appreciate it. I was only able to scale around 6 towers, and then I had to head back to the cable area to take the toboggan ride down from the wall on a winding metal track. Next time, I’ll go when it’s colder and at a more leisurely pace!

I can’t believe I’m going back to work tomorrow!! The weekend flew by so fast. I went to my mom’s hometown in Sta. Rita last Saturday for the fiesta, taking ten friends with me. It was super fun and tiring at the same time! More about this next time. For now, I need to clean my room and then rest, rest, rest~

"you, the great confidant. the robin to every batman, the satellite to every planet. you're a bright star shining behind the shadow of another. a great spectacle of magnificence dying to be discovered. a great enigma it is that no one cares to notice. that none dared to see through and beyond the lines and your flaws. a brilliant dancer waltzing away alone with little people who dared to watch.
